A company of actors in New York called the Bedlam Ensemble has scheduled a production of Measure for Measure at the Access Theatre at the end of July and using a kickstarter.com campaign to help fund the show.
Produced by Michael Chahade and Samantha Jane Williams and directed by Samantha Mannas, this Measure for Measure will be set in contemporary New York City, a “gritty, dark world filled with sex, drugs, and debauchery.”
The company describes itself as a nonprofit organization that “aims to nourish an open and artistic community where artists are free to experiment and challenge themselves within the entertainment industry.” Founded in 2011, the company has mounted five productions in New York, including The Delirium of Edgar Allan Poe, which was produced as a benefit for the Poe House and Museum in Baltimore. Measure for Measure is Bedlam's first Shakespeare play.
The company is looking for backers through the website Kickstarter, a “funding platform for creative projects.” Bedlam's fundraising goal is $1,500 with a deadline of July 8.
