After wrapping up its ambitious Globe to Globe Festival—37 plays in 37 languages—in the spring, Shakespeare's Globe will use its production of Henry V to transition into the 2012 season, which also features Richard III, Twelfth Night, and The Taming of the Shrew.
Theater vet and film actor Mark Rylance, the Globe's former artistic director, will play the title role of Richard III and reprise his role as Olivia in a re-mounting of the Globe's 2002 Twelfth Night production. Both plays will be original practices productions with all-male casts, and Twelfth Night reunites the original creative team of the 2002 production: director Tim Carroll and designer Jenny Tiramani with music by Claire van Kampen.
The last play in the Globe to Globe Festival, which will run April 23 to June 9, will be Henry V, directed by Globe Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole with Jamie Parker in the title role. That play will then open the Globe's 2012 season, joined in the repertoire by The Taming of the Shrew directed by Toby Frow.
