Great Lakes Theater, Cleveland's Classic Company, will present special pre-show discussions on parenting and on the true chemistry of romance to accompany upcoming performances of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
On Sunday April 22, the discussion titled “Raising Romeo and Juliet: Transcending Barriers to Parent/Teen Communication” will feature Amy Speidel, parenting coach and national presenter with Loving Guidance Inc. and Senders Parenting Center. Speidel teaches the principles of a program called Conscious Discipline for adults in practical, user-friendly seminars and workshops. Speidel is, herself, a foster parent, a birth parent, and an adoptive parent. The program begins at 1:30 in the Hanna Theatre's Salon before the 3 p.m. curtain for Romeo and Juliet.
“What's Love Got to Do with It? The Science of Attraction” is the topic of the pre-show discussion for Friday, April 27. Scheduled for the panel discussion are Dr. Stephen Levine, clinical professor of psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University; Dr. Mary Ann Raghanti, professor of anthropology at Kent State University; and Dr. Linda Spurlock, director of health at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The discussion will be moderated by Eric Wellman, host of 90.3 WCPN's “Morning Edition.” This program will start at 6 p.m., with the play following at 7:30 p.m.
