Cymbeline Gets Unplugged

The Judith Shakespeare Company in New York City will be performing a “Shakespeare Unplugged Concert” performance of Cymbeline July 17–19 at Theatre 54 in the Shetler Studios on 244 West 54th St.. Founded in 1995, the Judith Shakespeare Company combines two missions: Bringing “Shakespeare's language to life with clarity and vitality” while “expanding the presence of women in classical theater.”

The Unplugged Concert performances of Shakespeare exemplify that mission. Developed by the company's artistic director, Joanne Zipay, the performance focuses on clear storytelling, utilizing visual elements and live music with actors on book. Meanwhile, the cast of this Cymbeline comprises 11 women and one man. The man, Bill Galarno, is playing Cymbeline. All other parts will be taken by women, with Drama Desk Award Winner Merle Louise as the Queen and Rachael Hip-Flores as Imogen.

Zipay will direct the play with Elizabeth Mozer choreographing stylized movements set to an original piano/electronic score composed and performed live by Neil Alexander.
