Lean & Hungry Theater, the audio Shakespeare troupe that brings The Bard to the Washington, D.C., airwaves, will produce its first non-Shakespeare presentation as it moves through its seventh season.
The company partners with WAMU 88.5 public radio to broadcast radio plays before live audiences on Sundays at 6 p.m.
After opening Nov. 10 with William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, set on Wall Street within the Occupy movement, Lean & Hungry will air an adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter on Feb. 9. The company will return to Shakespeare with The Comedy of Errors, set in the Wild West, on June 22.
“We are very excited about all the new elements this season,” Lean & Hungry Executive Director Jessica Hansen said in a press release. “A social-media laden Julius Caesar a la Occupy Wall Street and underscored by a live band, our first non-Shakespeare production of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter; and the broadly hilarious The Comedy of Errors set in the Wild West, providing the fun challenge of transforming Commedia style into humor for the ears.”
Lean & Hungry Theater is endorsed by the National Federation of the Blind and sponsored by Secure Exchange Solutions and Bethesda Physicians PC.
