The Vermont Shakespeare Company will debut its Shakespeare in the Park in Burlington this August, playing for two weekends in two locations for the first time ever. This season's production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest will play at the company's home base in the Champlain Islands August 10–12, performing at the Island Center at Knight Point State Park in North Hero, and then move to Oakledge Park in Burlington for its August 17–19 run.
“This is a crucial phase of development for Vermont Shakespeare Company,” the company said in a press release. The expansion moves the company closer to “realizing [its] vision of a successful and nationally recognized Shakespeare Festival that performs in multiple locations throughout the state of Vermont.” The company is seeking additional venues and potential producing partners to present its plays in other areas of Vermont in the coming years.
Vermont Shakespeare Company chose a suitable play for this summer's big step into Burlington. The Tempest is ideally set against the restless inland sea of Lake Champlain.
